It will be here soon, EquiSmartz

EquiSmartz – State 4-H Educational Contest Weekend, March 24-26 2017.

The Meadow Event Park, Doswell, VA

We are so fortunate that our contests are held in conjunction with The Virginia Horse Festival .  Besides our busy contest weekend, we can visit with vendors; watch clinics and demonstrations; and learn about Secretariat, who was born on the property.

Here are a couple photos from last year:

Catch Up!

We missed opportunities to post about recent activities with the club.  So, let’s play catch up!  Out Christmas party was great fun!  We ate pizza, had our general meeting and played the “Saran-wrap Ball Game”.

Party Time

All the Goodies wrapped up and ready for the game.

Here we go…

On December 31, 21016 we celebrated the coming New Year, by attending the Caroline County Hippology Contest.  It was a great contest and we love having parts of the test on iPads—so high-tech!

Great Job Bit N’ Bridle Club!

January Meeting Change

Because of earlier bad weather in January, we need to move our January General Meeting to Wednesday, January 25.  As this is already a study session evening, we will meet from 6-8 PM at the Manvells’ home.  We will have dinner first with the business meeting.  RSVP, so we plan for enough food.

Remember the program will be Horse Breeds, tell us a breed that interests you.  You may prepare a presentation or speech to share with the club.

We hope to have some time remaining to study for upcoming Hippology Contests.

Our next General Meeting will be, Wednesday December 14th at 6:30 PM.

Place: The Manvell’s, email for directions

This will be our holiday party.  We will watch Harry & Snowman.

Donations for the Orange County Humane Society will be collected.  They appreciate:  old towels and blankets, dry and canned food for dogs and cats, kitty litter, treats and toys.  They also accept cash donations. We will have a small craft project to make dog toys for the shelter dogs.

Bring a snack or sweet to share.  Paper products, beverages and popcorn will be provided.

This meeting may run over our usual time, so pick-up should be closer to 8:30PM.

If you would like to join our horse knowledge study sessions, we will meet, November 30 and December 7.  Both will meet at the Manvells, 6:30-8 PM. We study to prepare for contests in: hippology, horse judging and horse (quiz) bowl.  If you would like to join us and need directions, please email

Join Us!

You are invited to checkout the Bit N’ Bridle Orange County 4H club.  We are a Horse Knowledge Club.  We love to learn about horses and their world.  We compete in Hippology, Horse Judging, Horse Bowl, and Communications Contests.  To prepare for these contests, in addition to our General Meetings with a themed program, we gather a couple times each month to study for these contests.

We enjoy helping our community through service projects.  Sometimes we help people, sometimes animals.  Whatever it is, we have a great time!  Field trips to rescue farms, horse shows, breeding farms and historical sites are another way we spend time learning about and enjoying horses.

Our next general meeting will be a Horse Movie and Holiday Party.  We will meet at The Manvell’s home, December 14 @ 6:30 PM.  We will collect supplies for our local Humane Society.  Items needed include towels, blankets, cat or dog food, dry or canned, treats, fleece kitty beds, grooming supplies, and cash.

Remember you do not need to own a horse or even ride a horse to join our club, JUST LOVE HORSES!

You may contact us at for more information.
